Bishop named finalist for Vezina Trophy

On Saturday, goaltender Ben Bishop was named one of the three finalists for the 2018-19 Vezina Trophy, awarded "to the goalkeeper adjudged to be the best at his position," the National Hockey League announced today. The general managers of the NHL's 31 clubs submitted ballots for the Vezina Trophy at the conclusion of the regular season, with the top three vote-getters designated as finalists. The winner will be revealed Wednesday, June 19, during the 2019 NHL Awards presented by Bridgestone at Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas. Over his final 15 games of the season, he earned an 11-3-0 record with a .962 save percentage, a 1.15 goals-against average and six shutouts to help the team clinch a berth in the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the first time since the 2015-16 campaign. The native of Denver, Colo. finished the 2018-19 season with a 27-15-2 record with a 1.98 GAA and a .934 SV% in 46 appearances. Bishop led the NHL, established a new career-high and set a franchise record with a .934 SV%. His .934 SV% was the highest in the NHL since Craig Anderson's .941 in 2012-13 and the ninth-best mark in NHL history. The netminder finished second in the League and also logged a new career best with a 1.98 GAA, while establishing a new career-high and finished third in the NHL with seven shutouts. During the 2019 Stanley Cup Playoffs, he has posted a 3-2 record in five appearances with a .935 SV% and a 2.18 GAA. Among all NHL goaltenders in the postseason, he ranks third in SV% (.935) and fourth in GAA (2.18).

Benn there, done that

Captain Jamie Benn tallied a postseason career-high three assists (0-3=3) in Game 5 of the First Round vs. Nashville on Saturday. Benn's three assists in the middle frame matched the NHL playoff record for most in a single period, which was also accomplished by Washington's John Carlson earlier this postseason (0-3=3) in Game 1 of the 2019 Eastern Conference First Round against Carolina. The forward has inked the scoresheet in four of his five games in the First Round series against the Predators (1-5=6). Over his career, Benn has registered at least a point in 15 of his 17 career postseason games in the First Round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs (9-12=21). During the 2019 postseason, the captain has posted six points (1-5=6) through five games. He ranks first on the Stars in points (6), shares first in assists (5) and third in shots on goal (14). Among all NHL players during the postseason, Benn shares sixth in assists (5) and 11th in points (6). The native of Victoria, B.C. has now made three appearances (2014, 2016, 2019) in the Stanley Cup Playoffs and has posted 26 points (10-16=26) in 24 postseason contests.

Benn sets up Radulov in the slot

He's a Rad guy

Right wing Alexander Radulov matched his postseason single game career-high with two goals (2-0=2) against the Nashville Predators on Saturday in Game 5 of First Round. The forward's only other postseason multi-goal outing (2-0=2) occurred in his Stanley Cup Playoff debut in Game 1 of the 2007 Western Conference Quarterfinals against the San Jose Sharks (L, 4-5 2 OT). Radulov has also tied his career-long streak with goals in two consecutive postseason games (3-0=3). He has lit the lamp in back-to-back playoff contests for the fourth time in his career and for the first time since he potted two goals (2-3=5) spanning Game 2 and 3 of the 2017 Eastern Conference First Round against the New York Rangers. During the 2019 Stanley Cup Playoffs, Radulov shares second on the Stars with five points (4-1=5). His four goals are a new single-postseason career high, surpassing his three goals (3-1=4) over four games during the 2007 Stanley Cup Playoffs. Among all NHL players during the postseason, his team-leading +6 plus/minus rating is tied for first in the League with the Islanders' Mathew Barzal and Jordan Eberle. Additionally, he ranks second in the NHL with 25 shots on goal and is tied for fourth with four goals. Radulov has now made five appearances (2007, 2008, 2012, 2017, 2019) in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Three of his five playoff appearances have come as a member of the Nashville Predators (2007, 2008, 2012). He shared the Predators postseason team-lead in points in 2008 (6 GP, 2-2=4) and 2012 (8 GP, 1-5=6). In 29 career Stanley Cup Playoff games, he has posted 26 points (12-14=26).
